Toddlers & Preschool
Kingdom Academy is committed to the education of young children and the achievement of their optimal developmental level. The preschool program provides a multitude of learning experiences that actively engage the child to gain the skills and knowledge needed to enter primary school. To this end, staff is carefully selected, and lessons are individually planned to meet the unique needs of each child. Our program views itself as a support system for the child and the family. We believe that parents and school must work together to positively motivate the child to grow cognitively, socially, physically and emotionally.
Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-kindergarten children exhibit growing physical and intellectual independence made possible by acquired physical skills and complex language. Daily structured educational programs stress language arts, math, science, social studies, and computer skills. There are also monthly field trips and an end of the year graduation ceremony. Creativity is encouraged and learning experiences presented as a healthy mixture of fun and challenge at our learning centers.
Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)
Our state funded VPK program is a three hour block of concentrated instruction with smaller class size and lower rates. Inquire at the office about eligibility requirement and times offered.
Elementary
Kingdom Academy's reputation has been built on a strong primary educational program geared towards grounding students in the fundamental skills and concepts essential for future academic success. The program includes enrichment opportunities that expose students to the fine arts, technology, physical education, Spanish/French, and the interpersonal skills of perseverance, self-discipline, collaboration and conflict resolution.
Out-Of-School program "Inclusion Counts"
Fight for the Gold is an after school program that is dedicated to engaging pre-kindergarten (4 yrs old), kindergarten and elementary school children in high-quality, hands-on apprenticeship opportunities with caring adults in the out-of-school hours. Kingdom Academy brings together the academic and social supports needed to ensure that all students succeed by offering programs before, during and after the school day for students and their families. The programs are designed to support the school's academic program and expand the services offered within the community. The program provides additional academic instruction; specifically reading and math, outside of the regular school-day to increase the academic achievement of students in low-performing schools. Other programs offered are academic enrichment activities for students, art activities, physical health, sports instruction, social skills, service learning opportunities, dance, theater, chorus, computer, chess, and homework assistance and other educational interventions.
A portion of our Out-Of-School program is generously funded by The Children's Trust and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC). The "Inclusion Counts" program provides all the benefits of our regular out-of-school program within an inclusion setting.
Transportation to and from selective neighboring schools is provided. Eligible students under the 21st CCLC grant are able to participate in the after school program free of charge.
Summer Camp "Exploring the Kingdom"
Exploring the Kingdom is a ten week program created for children 4 to 12 years old, designed for the purpose of a fun and productive learning experience. Children will learn valuable skills while spending the summer with friends in a safe, nurturing environment. The summer curriculum is a combination of themes designed to stretch the child's imagination, social skills, service learning opportunities, physical health and learning skills complemented with educational field trips, academic assistance, table games, computers, music, and fine arts.
A portion of the summer camp program is generously funded by The Children's Trust and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC.) Eligible students selected under the 21st CCLC grant are able to participate in the after school program free of charge.
Music
Kingdom Academy believes that music education from an early age leads to improved school grades, better-adjusted social behavior, and improvements in "spatial-temporal reasoning," - a cornerstone for problem solving. Based on this theory we have complemented our curriculum with a comprehensive music program available to all our students’ age two thru twelve.
Many studies have lead to the knowledge that music is a way of knowing. According to Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner (1983), music intelligence is equal in importance to logical - mathematical intelligence, linguistic intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily - kinesthetic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and intrapersonal intelligence. According to Thomas Armstrong (1994,5), "Intelligence is galvanized by participation in some kind of culturally valued activity and that the individual's growth in such an activity follows a developmental pattern; each activity has its own time arising in early childhood."
In addition to the chorus component, music appreciation and group piano, our school offers private classes to those interested in a more in-depth knowledge of the piano instrument.
Meals
Included in the tuition, Kingdom Academy provides each student with nutritional balanced meals: breakfast, lunch and snack. We believe that sharing of food is basic to our human experience; therefore, it is an integral part of our program. Learning to eat with others, the manners needed, the skills of conversation, and the actual sharing of food are important social skills that the young child needs to learn.
